Delhi Fire Services (DFS) Chief Atul Garg clarified on Friday that firefighters did not recover any cash while extinguishing a blaze at the residence of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma.
The DFS control room received a call about the fire at Varma’s Lutyens Delhi residence at 11:35 pm on March 14. Two fire tenders were dispatched immediately and reached the location by 11:43 pm, Mr. Garg told PTI.
The fire broke out in a storeroom containing stationery and household items. Firefighters managed to control the flames within 15 minutes. No casualties were reported.
"Soon after dousing the flames, we informed police about the fire incident. Thereafter, a team of fire department personnel left the spot. Our firefighters did not find any cash during their firefighting operation," the DFS chief said.
On Friday, the Supreme Court collegium initiated a preliminary inquiry into Varma, following the alleged discovery of a substantial amount of cash at his official residence during a fire incident. Additionally, it is reported that the collegium has recommended his transfer to the Allahabad High Court.
