Hours after Supreme Court Judge Justice Abhay Oka raised concerns over illegal hoardings in Mira Bhayandar, authorities took swift action, registering a case against a man for unauthorized banners.
On Saturday, the Kashigaon police booked Rajaram Ninave following a complaint from the anti-hawker squad of the Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation, an official confirmed on Sunday.
Justice Oka, speaking at the inauguration of a Magistrate Court in Mira Bhayandar, expressed displeasure over the rampant display of unauthorized hoardings. He noted that while traveling to the event, he initially appreciated the banners welcoming guests but later realized they lacked the required permissions.
Recalling a Bombay High Court judgment, he emphasized that no hoardings should be put up without prior authorization. "None of these banners displayed the mandatory permission number, making them illegal," he remarked, urging the local civic body to take immediate action.
Following his comments, the Kashigaon police promptly registered a case against Ninave under the Maharashtra Prevention of Defacement of Property Act for erecting unauthorized hoardings related to the court inauguration, the official added.
