Recently, the Madhya Pradesh Court is now dealing with a divorce case where a woman is seeking to end her marriage just five months after tying the knot. The grounds for the divorce revolve around her husband's failure to fulfill his promise of a honeymoon in Goa, opting instead to take her to Ayodhya and Varanasi.
In her divorce petition, the woman highlighted that her husband, gainfully employed in the IT sector with a substantial income, had the means to provide for a memorable honeymoon.
Emphasizing her own financial independence as a working woman with a commendable income, she asserted that the prospect of an overseas honeymoon was well within their means. The discrepancy between their expectations and the actual choice of destinations became a significant point of contention in their marital discord.
Despite the absence of any financial constraints, the woman's husband declined the idea of an international honeymoon and insisted on choosing a destination within India. His reasoning was centered around his commitment to caring for his parents. As a compromise, the couple mutually agreed to visit either Goa or a location in South India for their honeymoon. This difference in preference regarding the honeymoon destination became a pivotal source of disagreement between them.
However, he later unilaterally booked flights to Ayodhya and Varanasi without informing his wife. He informed her of the changed travel plans only a day before the trip, saying that they were going to Ayodhya as his mother wanted to visit the city before the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony.
Although she did not object to the trip at the time and went along with the plan without raising any immediate concerns, upon their return from the pilgrimage sites, she promptly approached the family court seeking a divorce from her husband. In her statement, she asserted that her husband prioritized the well-being of his family members over her. In contrast, her husband dismissed her claims, stating that she was merely making a fuss about the situation.
This difference in perception further adds to the complexity of their marital dispute.
The couple is currently receiving counseling at the Bhopal Family Court.
