Today, the Supreme Court sought a report from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on the steps being taken to control air pollution in Delhi-NCR.
The bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia gave this order while hearing the arguments of senior lawyer Aparajita Singh.
Advocate Aparajita Singh is assisting the Supreme Court as an advisor/amicus curiae on the issue of air pollution in Delhi-NCR during winters and crop residue burning. The bench said the amicus curiae had pointed out the serious problem of approaching winters, crop residue burning as well as air pollution and these issues were before the CAQM.
"We order the CAQM to immediately submit a report regarding the steps being taken to control air pollution in and around the capital Delhi," the bench said. The bench has fixed the next hearing of the case on October 31.
