We will now start keeping 500 matters on our board daily: Bombay High Court

Today, Advocate VM Thorat, seeking urgent hearing on a plea filed by a student over medical admission before the division bench of Justices Gautam Patel and Neela Gokhale.

Justice Patel, however, refused to do so. He said, "We have hundreds of matters, including of teachers and librarians. The oldest matter pending is of 1998, which is pending admission."

Further, he said -

He added, "We will now start keeping 500 matters on our board every day."

During the previous hearing, the bench mentioned that how the courts are overburdened, especially judges who have to burn the midnight oil, on Thursday he again expressed his dismay: "We don’t end here at 4.30 pm. Last night went till 2 am. I have 42 orders yet to correct."

Justice Patel finally ended his lashing with a warning to Thorat: "One more word and your matter goes straight to 2026."
