Teachers Recruitment Scam | Special Court sent four teachers to 14 days in judicial custody

On Monday, the Special Court of the West Bengal sent four teachers to judicial custody, allegedly for being involved in Teachers Recruitment Scam. .

Four teachers, named Saigar Hussain, Simar Hossain, Zahiruddin Sheikh and Sougat Mondal from Murshidabad, were summoned by the Alipore special court after they were mentioned as witnesses by the probing agency Central Bureau of Investigations.

"They are the people who gave money to arrested accused Tapas Mandal in exchange for their job." said CBI after sending teachers to judicial custody.

"They also enjoyed that illegal job. Partha Chatterjee is currently in jail for them, for these people. Then why are the names of teachers who are not eligible to get jobs mentioned as witnesses in the charge sheet? They are also accused, not only witnesses," the judge added in his observations.

Case Brief -

The court directed CBI to probe the appointment of non-teaching staff and teaching staff by the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) and West Bengal Board of Secondary Education between 2014 and 2021.

The appointees teachers had allegedly paid bribes in the range of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh to get jobs after failing the selection tests.

According to the CBI, more than Rs 100 crore was allegedly raised by TMC leaders from job aspirants to employ them as teachers and staff at state-run schools across West Bengal between 2014 and 2021.
