Supreme Court of India rejected a writ petitions filed by certain civil service aspirants challenging the decision made by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) regarding their categorization as general category candidates.
The UPSC took this action because these aspirants had not submitted the required certificates pertaining to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category in the prescribed format before the specified cutoff date for the 2022 Civil Service Examinations (CSE).
Supreme Court issued a directive to all State Information Commissions (SICs), instructing them to implement a hybrid system for handling complaints and appeals under the Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act).
The Supreme Court further said that, SICs must provide parties the choice to opt for hybrid hearings and share video links on the cause list.

Supreme Court judge Justice BV Nagarathna burst into anger in the courtroom on Wednesday, October 11 after the Central government approached the court of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud to withdraw an order passed by her bench. Justice Nagarathna said that every bench of the Supreme Court is the Supreme Court and its order is the order of the Supreme Court. Justice Nagarathna rapped the Central government's Additional Solicitor General for orally mentioning an application before the Chief Justice of the country to withdraw the order passed by the bench of Justices Hima Kohli and BV Nagarathna.
Division bench of Justice Abhay S Oka and Pankaj Mithal of the Supreme Court said that, the Caste or the Religion of the person should never be mentioned in the title of the Judgement.
Supreme Court further extended the interim bail, which had been granted to former Maharashtra Minister and NCP MLA Nawab Malik on medical grounds in a money laundering case. This extension amounts to an additional three months. Initially, on August 11th, the Supreme had granted him interim bail for two months due to medical reasons, following his detention since February 2022.
