SC to appoint interpreter to facilitate participation of Sarah Sunny, a deaf lawyer, in presenting her case

Today, the Supreme Court has issued a directive, instructing its registry to engage an interpreter for Sarah Sunny, a deaf lawyer. This interpreter will assist Sarah Sunny in presenting her case before the highest court, with the Court covering the associated expenses.

Registrar Vivek Saxena passed the order directing the registry officials to take necessary steps in this regard.

"There is a request for an appointment of a sign-language interpreter. The Registry will take steps for appointing an interpreter as requested by the advocate for appellants,” it was ordered.

In the course of the proceedings, the Court took into account an application submitted by advocate Sanchita Ain. This application sought the appointment of an interpreter to assist advocate Sarah Sunny.

In order to ensure justice for all, the Supreme Court allowed the disabled lawyer to appear with the help of a translator and in this way the deaf and mute advocate was seen presenting her views in front of the court through gestures. The translator gave words to Sara's gestures and told the court what argument Sara was presenting? This incident was seen for the first time in the Supreme Court.

Advocate Sara Sunny started presenting her views through gestures and her translator Saurav Rai Chaudhary was rapidly narrating what Sara said in the court by putting her words into words.

This would perhaps be the first time during a hearing through hybrid medium in the Supreme Court that a disabled lawyer was presenting her arguments through a translator. Seeing all this in the Supreme Court, the Solicitor General could not stop himself and said that all this is excellent. He said, “The speed with which the translator conveyed the court proceedings to the lawyer was amazing.” CJI DY Chandrachud also agreed to this.
