SC dismissed petition filed by LLM Student to abolish the reservation system

On December 13, a bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha refused to hear a PIL filed by an LLM student seeking to abolish the country's reservation system, calling it an "abuse of process."

CJI Chandrachud also stated that the petition appeared to have been filed for publicity purposes by the LLM student and reiterated that such a petition would incur significant costs. "'Remove system of reservation' - this is a plea. You are saying it is against equality and it is leading to caste system."

The Court said "LLM student files a plea for publicity. We will impose a lakh cost if you do not withdraw. The petition is an abuse of the process of the law."

The petition was dismissed as withdrawn after the counsel sought to withdraw it.
