SC allowed deaf lawyer Sara Sunny to argue in sign language

The Supreme Court has started allowing deaf and dumb lawyers to translate the case proceedings through sign language. The result was that Sara Sunny fought her first case with the help of a sign language interpreter. At the same time, the court has also tried to give a message that there is no need to say everything out loud in the court.

Advocate Sanchita on Friday made an unusual request to a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud that deaf lawyer Sara Sunny be allowed to argue with the help of translator Saurav Roy Chowdhury in a case related to the rights of persons with disabilities. CJI immediately agreed to this and online hearing window was opened for Sara and Saurav.

In order to ensure justice for all, the Supreme Court allowed the disabled lawyer to appear with the help of a translator and in this way the deaf and mute advocate was seen presenting her views in front of the court through gestures. The translator gave words to Sara's gestures and told the court what argument Sara was presenting? This incident was seen for the first time in the Supreme Court.

Advocate Sara Sunny started presenting her views through gestures and her translator Saurav Rai Chaudhary was rapidly narrating what Sara said in the court by putting her words into words.

This would perhaps be the first time during a hearing through hybrid medium in the Supreme Court that a disabled lawyer was presenting her arguments through a translator. Seeing all this in the Supreme Court, the Solicitor General could not stop himself and said that all this is excellent. He said, “The speed with which the translator conveyed the court proceedings to the lawyer was amazing.” CJI DY Chandrachud also agreed to this.
