'Mr. Put Mine, Advocate' was an error in recording appearances I caused embarrassment: rectified: AOR's apology accepted: SC

There has been an order floating in the social media for last few days in which it is shown that in the appearance column of the Supreme Court order, name of the Advocate is shown as Mr. Put Mine, Advocate.

The Supreme Court took suo moto cognizance of the same and passed an order of rectifying the same and also accepted the apology tendered by the Advocate on Record.

The Court order said, "Noticing that name of one of the advocate of the petitioner was recorded as “Mr. Put Mine, Advocate” in the record of proceeding dated 17.03.2023, we have initiated present proceeding suo moto and matter is listed today on our directions. "

The Apex Court also noted the facts that this caused a lot of embarrassment in the eyes of public and noted that, "This error in recording of the proceedings of the said date has caused lot of embarrassment to this Court as the same has been widely circulated on WhatsApp and other social media."

The Court also noted the facts saying Learned Advocate on Record of the petitioner is present before us along with Mr. Mukul Rohatgi, learned senior counsel and Mr. K.V. Viswanathan, learned senior counsel. Both of them have stated before us that on account of unintentional mistake committed by the clerk of the Advocate on Record in forwarding the WhatsApp message/communication received from the learned advocate who wanted his name to be recorded in the Record of Proceeding dated 17.03.2023, the message received by the Clerk on WhatsApp was “Put Mine” though actually what he wanted to communicate was that his name be also recorded in the proceeding. Inadvertently, the message as received was forwarded and put in portal appearance online and proceedings were generated with the name “Mr. Put Mine, Advocate”.

The bench of Justice Krishna Murari, Justice sanjay karol accepted the apology while noting that Learned Advocate on Record present before us is a young lawyer and has tendered unqualified apology for the embarrassment caused to this Court on account of bona fide mistake in the Record of Proceeding dated 17.03.2023.
