Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed ban on Meat products near Mata Mansa Devi Mandir

Recently, the single headed bench of Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed the State's ban on sale and purchase of meat and meat products in area around Mata Mansa Devi temple in Haryana. The bench was headed by Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj

In its order, the bench said, "In the meanwhile, operation of the impugned Notification dated 21.12.2022 (Annexure P-1) shall remain stayed till the next date of hearing," the Court said.

Additional Chief Secretary declared Mata Mansa Devi Mandir and nearby area as 'Holy Place'. The petitioners approaches High Court contending that no public intimation was given to them and that the order did not refer to any statutory provision under which such a declaration was issued.

It was further contended that the petitioners were duly issued their licences by the competent authority to deal in the sale and purchase of meat and meat products in the said area and that they undertake to carry out business as per law.

The Court issued notice to the State and sought its response while staying the order until the next date of hearing on August 7.
