The Gujarat High Court has ordered an investigation by the Surat Police against a doctor who is alleged to have issued fake medical certificates to jail inmates, enabling them to obtain bail. The order came in response to a bail application filed by Dilip Gauda, who submitted a medical certificate issued by Dreamz Multi Specialty Hospital and signed by Dr. ML Patel.
The court took note of the trial court's observations regarding the medical certificates issued by Dr. Patel. The trial court pointed out discrepancies in the degrees mentioned in the certificates, as well as the fact that Dr. Patel recommended surgeries despite holding an MBBS degree, which does not authorize such procedures. The trial court also noted that the doctor had a history of criminal offenses including rape, cheating, forgery, and violations under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The Gujarat High Court found prima facie evidence that Dr. Patel had been issuing fraudulent certificates using different hospital names and addresses. The court directed the investigating officer to verify and examine the certificate issued by Dr. Patel to uncover the truth. The matter is scheduled to be heard again on June 8.
During the proceedings, the petitioner was represented by Advocates Amit Shah and Khushbu Shah, while the State was represented by Additional Public Prosecutor Bhargav Pandya.
The investigation ordered by the Gujarat High Court aims to establish the facts and hold the doctor accountable if found guilty of issuing bogus medical certificates to aid prisoners in securing bail.
