Petition Urges Allahabad HC to Ban 'Pran Pratishtha' Ceremony at Ram Temple

Petition Urges Allahabad HC to Ban 'Pran Pratishtha' Ceremony at Ram Temple

In the Allahabad High Court, Bhola Das, a resident of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has lodged a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking to prohibit the scheduled 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony of Shri Ram Lalla at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024.

The petition filed in the Allahabad High Court by Bhola Das raises objections based on the concerns expressed by the Shankaracharyas. It argues against holding any religious ceremonies in the month of 'Pus'. Additionally, the petition highlights that the Ram Temple is still under construction, and in accordance with tradition, consecrating a deity in an incomplete temple is not considered appropriate.

Furthermore, the petition puts forth an allegation asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is orchestrating the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony for political advantages in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. It characterizes the ceremony as an action contrary to the Sanatana tradition.

Earlier, opposition parties asserted that the Shankaracharyas opted not to participate in the event, citing their objections to conducting the ceremony in an 'incomplete temple'. Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has further declined the invitation to the event, emphasizing the significance of the Shankaracharyas' decision to boycott the ceremony.

Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj accused the BJP of attempting to alienate two-thirds of the country’s population from Lord Ram by politicizing the Pran Pratishtha of the Ram Temple.

Swami Nischalanand Saraswati Maharaj, the Shankaracharya of Puri, revealed that the Shankaracharyas' decision is rooted in the deviation from established traditions during the installation of the Ram Lalla idol. He emphasized that the presence of a 'secular' government does not mean the erasure of tradition.

The Vedic rituals for the Pran-Pratishtha ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya commenced a week prior to the main ceremony. Champat Rai, the general secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, has declared that the Ram temple will be accessible for 'darshan' by the general public starting January 23.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated an 11-day special ritual leading up to the Pran Pratishtha of Shri Ramlala at the temple in Ayodhya.
