Today, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur took his oath as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
He is the sixth Chief Justice of the High Court,
The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, cabinet members, opposition leader N. Chandrababu Nadu, high court judges, and other senior officials.
The Supreme Court collegium recently appoints as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
He took over for Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, who was elevated to the Supreme Court.
On July 5, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended that Justice Thakur be appointed Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
Justice Dhiraj Singh was born on April 25, 1964, and enrolled as an advocate in 1989 with Bar Council of Delhi and subsequently with Bar Council of Jammu & Kashmir.
He was designated a Senior Advocate in 2011 and appointed as permanent judge of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir on March 8, 2013.
Last year, in June, Justice Dhiraj Thakur was transferred to the Bombay High Court. Curently, Justice Akula Venkata Sesha Sai is the acting Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court which has a sanctioned strength of 37 judges is currently functioning with 30 judges, a vacancy position of 7.
