Joseph Hand Copping Case | Kerala NIA Court convicted 6 persons and acquitted 5

Today, the National Investigation Agency court, Kerala has convicted 6 persons and acquitted 5 others accused in the infamous 2010 hand chopping case of professor TJ Joseph.

Case Brief -

Back in July 2010, Malayalam professor at Newman College in Thodupuzha, named Joseph, was attacked by a group of men and his hand was chopped off at the wrist. This was allegedly done in response to an exam question set by the professor that was construed to be blasphemous and insulting to Prophet Mohammed.

After that two phases of trial was conducted.

During the phase one in 2015, the Court 13 out of 31 persons arrayed as accused were found guilty and the NIA court today delivered the verdict in the second phase in which 11 persons were tried.

As per the report, MK Nassar, Sajil, Najeeb, MK Naushad, P P Muhammadkunju and PM Ayoob were found guilty by the NIA court.

The sentence imposed on these 6 men will be pronounced tomorrow.
