Today, Ghazipur Court convicted former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mukhtar Ansari in a kidnapping and murder case. Special Court also sentenced the ex-lawmaker to 10 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5 lacks.
The trial in the case under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act concluded on April 1.
Former MLA charged for his involvement in the kidnapping of Vishwa Hindu Parishad officer Nandkishore Rungta in 1996 and the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Krishnanand Rai in 2005.
Mukhtar is currently in Banda jail.
Government advocate Neeraj Srivastava represented the State.
