Statement made by Union Minister Smriti Irani regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
According to the statement, Irani expressed her belief that it was fortunate for her to have sent Rahul Gandhi away from Amethi to Wayanad. She mentioned several reasons for this decision, such as the lack of electricity, office for the district collector, fire station, medical college, Kendriya Vidyalaya, sainik school, and indoor stadium in Amethi during Rahul Gandhi's tenure as the Member of Parliament (MP) from that constituency.
Smriti Irani, who contested against Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Amethi, emerged victorious with a margin of approximately 55,000 votes. The seat of Amethi had been historically associated with the Gandhi family, with both Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi having represented the constituency before Rahul Gandhi.
However, after losing to Irani, Rahul Gandhi became the MP for Wayanad, a different constituency in Kerala. It should be noted that in March, Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha due to his conviction in the "Modi surname case," though the court has not granted him relief in the matter.
In her speech, Smriti Irani cautioned the people of Wayanad that if Rahul Gandhi remains in their constituency, they may face similar challenges as those encountered by the people of Amethi. She urged them to ensure that he does not continue to represent Wayanad, although no by-election has been announced for the seat at the time of the provided information.
