The Delhi High Court has withdrawn judicial duties from Justice Yashwant Varma following the controversy over the recovery of a large sum of cash from his residence.
A notice to this effect was issued by the High Court's Registrar on Monday.
The decision comes after Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, on March 22, directed the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court to refrain from assigning any judicial work to Justice Varma.
"In view of the recent events, judicial work from Hon'ble Mr. Justice Yashwant Varma is withdrawn with immediate effect till further orders," the High Court notice said.
The court master will reassign dates for cases previously listed before Justice Yashwant Varma.
The controversy arose after a fire at Justice Varma's residence on the evening of March 14 inadvertently led to the discovery of unaccounted cash by firefighters.
A video allegedly showing the recovery of burnt cash was also shared by the Delhi Police Commissioner with the Chief Justice of the High Court.
