Delhi HC rejected a man's fourth bail application accused of throwing stones at police during the Northeast Delhi riots

The Delhi High Court has denied a man's fourth bail application after he was accused of assaulting and pelting stones at police officers during the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. Sadiq alias Sahil, who was arrested on April 14, 2020, was denied bail by Justice Poonam A. Bamba. In September 2020, his first bail plea was dismissed as withdrawn. Following that, he was denied bail by the High Court on September 14, 2021 and the trial court on February 9, 2022, respectively.

The FIR was filed on February 25, 2020, in response to a complaint filed by a constable alleging that a violent mob began pelting stones on police officers on duty, injuring more than 50 officers and killing Head Constable Ratan Lal. According to the constable, the mob also burned government and private vehicles and "began selectively targeting properties of a particular community." The FIR was filed in accordance with Sections 186, 353, 332, 333, 323, 109, 144, 147, 148, 149, 153A, 188, 336, 427, 307, 308, 397, 412, 302, 201, 120B, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, as well as Sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984, and Sections 25, 27, 54, and 59 of Arms Act, 1959.
