Delhi excise policy case | SC defers hearing for September 4 on interim bail pleas of Manish Sisodia

Today, the Supreme Court deferred hearing for September 4 on the interim bail pleas of AAP leader Manish Sisodia in Delhi excise policy cases being probed by the CBI and ED.

A division bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti read the medical records of Sisodia's wife, and said she is "fairly stable" and, therefore, it will consider the interim bail pleas of former deputy chief minister along with regular bail pleas in the cases.

Earlier, former leader sought interim bail on grounds of his wife's ill health.

Last month, the Supreme court had sought responses of the CBI and the ED on the interim bail pleas of Sisodia in the cases.

Sisodia challenged the Delhi High Court order that denied him bail in the cases filed against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Earlier, on July 3rd, the Delhi High Court denied bail to Sisodia in the ED case. Prior to that, it had rejected Sisodia's bail plea in the CBI case related to the same scam.

Sisodia, who also held the excise portfolio along with several other responsibilities as the deputy chief minister of Delhi, was first arrested by the CBI on February 26 for his alleged involvement in the "scam."

He has been in custody since then and resigned from the Delhi cabinet on February 28.
