Defamation case | Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot appeared in court via video conferencing

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot appeared via video conferencing at the Rouse Avenue District Court on Monday in the defamation case filed by Central Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. CM Gehlot had also knocked on the doors of the session court for exemption, but he did not receive relief from the court.

On Monday, the Chief Minister participated in the court proceedings via video conferencing. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaswal conducted the hearing of the case at the Rouse Avenue Court. Aditya Vikram Singh, the lawyer for Central Minister Shekhawat, stated that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot appeared in court on Monday in the defamation case.

The court clarified that in the absence of any order from the higher court, CM Gehlot will need to be personally present on the next date, and according to the court's directions, he will have to furnish a bail bond to secure bail.

It is stated that in the case of allegations made by Central Minister Shekhawat against Chief Minister Gehlot and his family in the Sanjivani scam, a defamation case has been filed against CM Gehlot. The Rouse Avenue Court had issued a summons to the CM on July 6th in this matter. CM had filed a petition against this decision in the session court, but relief was not granted there. He was only allowed to appear in court personally via video conferencing. The court had granted permission for the Chief Minister to appear virtually.

It is noteworthy that a few months ago, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had made controversial statements during a public event in Jodhpur. The Chief Minister had mentioned the name of Central Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and his family in relation to the Sanjivani scam. Following the Chief Minister's statement, Shekhawat had filed a defamation case in the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi.

The next hearing for this case will take place on August 21st.
