COVID | Acting Chief Justice T Raja urged lawyers to wear masks in view of spike in cases

Today, in view of the spike in COVID-19 cases in India, Madras High Court Acting Chief Justice T Raja urged all lawyers to wear masks. Justice Raja revealed that some judges of the Court had also contracted the coronavirus and said that all lawyers must wear masks inside court rooms when they were not arguing their cases.

"Three four judges also have tested positive for COVID-19. You can remove when arguing but otherwise, wear masks inside the courtroom," he said during a hearing.

He also asked why so many lawyers insisted on coming to Court physically and crowding the courtrooms when the option of hybrid hearings had been made available to all for the very purpose of reducing footfall in the Court.
