President Draupadi Murmu, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Law Minister Kiren Rijiju launched the app named Bhoroxa during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Gauhati High Court. This app has been developed by the Gauhati High Court for the safety of women.
Bhoroxa means 'Bharosa' or 'trust'. After installing this app, if a woman is in an emergency, she can send SOS messages. The special thing is that with this message, the officials will also get the location immediately and immediate help can be provided. The most important thing about this application is that even if there is no internet connection in any area, the officers will get SOS alerts through SMS.
The developers developed the app keeping in mind the ground realities of the society should be appreciated. Speaking about the digital gender divide at the national and state levels, Justice Chandrachud read out data from the National Family Health Survey. "75.4 per cent women in urban areas and 53.9 per cent women in rural areas of Assam have access to mobiles," he added. Along with this, the CJI also expressed concern regarding those women whose access to the internet is still far away.
CJI DY Chandrachud has already spoken about promoting the use of technology. In January this year, the CJI had said that digitization is the right step in the direction of justice delivery. Then he praised the Delhi High Court, saying that the High Court is far ahead of the Supreme Court in terms of facilities provided to judges and litigants, "SC makes laws for the whole country but Delhi HC is superior to SC in those facilities. There is a lot going forward that is provided not only to the judges but to the litigants. Your initiatives like online e-filing, VC, digitizing court records have added to the strength of a permanent court."
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud spoke about technology at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Gauhati High Court. He said that technology in itself is not a panacea. We need digital inclusion and an ecosystem that can translate the benefits of technology into reality.
He further said that Indian technology needs to be designed keeping in mind the reality of the Indian society. It is also very important for the design to be user-centric.
The Gauhati High Court was established in the year 1948. On Friday, a grand program was organized on the occasion of the platinum jubilee of the Gauhati High Court, in which apart from CJI Chandrachud, President Draupadi Murmu, Governor of Assam Gulab Chand Kataria, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Sandeep Mehta and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also attended.
Praising this application, CJI Chandrachud said that, "I would like to thank the developers that considering the ground reality and all the factors, they have developed such an app which will prove to be very helpful.
