Calcutta HC Set to Decide on Senior Designations for Lawyers After Over Five Years

The Calcutta High Court has revealed its intention to address the conferment of senior designations to several lawyers, marking a significant decision after a lapse of more than five years.

Yesterday, Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam disclosed a noteworthy development, stating that progress is underway in the matter after a hiatus of five and a half years.

"There are more than 130 candidates that we have shortlisted. A list of their names will be uploaded today by evening. ''

In a related development, the Gujarat High Court recently designated seven lawyers as senior advocates. This decision was reached during a full court meeting held on January 11.

Earlier this week, on January 16, the Supreme Court convened a meeting to review approximately 200 applications it received for senior gown designations.
