In May 2022, the CID initiated legal action by registering a First Information Report (FIR) against Chandrababu Naidu, former municipal administration minister Dr. P Narayana, Heritage Foods Ltd, and other individuals. The allegations in the FIR pertain to suspected irregularities in the construction of an inner ring road in Amaravati.
In November, the Andhra Pradesh High Court approved bail for Chandrababu Naidu in the skill development case. Naidu had been in judicial custody for 53 days, and the interim bail granted was for a duration of four weeks.
The former Andhra Pradesh chief minister had been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on September 9 in relation to a multi-crore skill development scam. This arrest resulted in political upheaval in the state, with several TDP leaders asserting that it was a politically motivated "witch-hunt," and contending that Naidu was detained on unfounded allegations.
In addition to the skill development case, Chandrababu Naidu has also been implicated as an accused in the Fibernet scam case. The FiberNet case revolves around the purported manipulation of tenders in the allocation of a work order, amounting to ₹330 crore, under Phase-1 of the Andhra Pradesh FiberNet Project. The allegations suggest favoritism towards a specific company in the tendering process.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Andhra Pradesh police has asserted allegations of irregularities in the FiberNet project, spanning from the awarding of the tender to the completion of the work. According to the CID, these alleged irregularities have resulted in a substantial loss to the state exchequer.
