The outgoing wrestling federation chief and BJP Member of Parliament (MP) Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been granted bail by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal of the Rouse Avenue Courts.
The bail comes in the wake of sexual harassment allegations filed against Singh by six women wrestlers.
The court imposed certain conditions on the accused, instructing him not to directly or indirectly influence the complainants or witnesses and not to leave the country without the court's permission.
The order was passed following the court's cognizance of the Delhi Police's chargesheet, which accused Singh of offenses under Sections 354, 354A, 354D, and 506(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
This case gained widespread attention, with several wrestlers staging protests over the authorities' initial failure to take action on the allegations. The Supreme Court was involved, and the Delhi Police eventually registered an FIR, assuring that the investigation was progressing.
Notably, a minor wrestler also made allegations against Singh, but later withdrew her complaint, leading to a cancellation report being filed by the Delhi Police.
The news of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's bail has sparked reactions and discussions nationwide, raising concerns about the handling of sexual harassment cases and the safety of women in sports.
