Archaeological Survey of India Requests One-Week Extension from Court to Submit Gyanvapi Survey Report

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Friday sought a week's time from the court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) Fast Track Prashant Kumar Singh to file the report of the survey conducted in Gyanvapi.

On behalf of ASI, Standing Government Counsel Amit Kumar Srivastava and Shambhu Sharan Singh said that the survey report is very detailed and big. It is taking time to prepare its copy.

The court accepted his application and gave him time until January 25. The report of the survey conducted on the Gyanvapi campus from August 4 to November 2 last year was filed in the District Judge's Court on December 18, 2023. On December 19, Allahabad High Court also ordered the submission of the survey report to the Civil Judge (Senior Division) Fast Track Court of Varanasi.

The case filed in 1991 by Pt. Somnath Vyas, Dr. Ramrang Sharma, and Pt. Harihar Pandey on behalf of the self-styled Vishveshwar Jyotirlinga is pending in the same court, and it seeks to build a new temple in Gyanvapi and give Hindus the right to worship there. Advocate Vijay Shankar Rastogi had filed an application in the Civil Judge (Senior Division) Fast Track Court demanding instructions from the ASI to comply with the High Court order.

Yesterday, Pranay Kumar Pandey and Karan Shankar Pandey, sons of Pt. Harihar Pandey, filed an application to become parties in the case filed by self-styled Vishveshwar Jyotirlinga in the 1991 case in the Civil Judge (Senior Division) Fast Track Court.

Gave application. It is said that Pt. Harihar Pandey died on December 10. Being his son, he has the legal right to prosecute the case. Therefore, permission should be given to become a party.
