Andhra Govt. challenges Chandrababu Naidu's bail in SC over corruption allegations

The Andhra Pradesh government has taken the matter to the Supreme Court, challenging the anticipatory bail granted to former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the Amaravati Inner Ring Road case. The case, which is part of a trio of legal issues, involves allegations of corrupt and illegal activities during Naidu's tenure between 2014 and 2019.

On January 10, the Andhra Pradesh High Court granted anticipatory bail to Naidu in three separate cases, namely the Inner Ring Road case, an excise policy case, and a sand mining case. The focus of the current dispute lies in the Amaravati Inner Ring Road case, which delves into alleged malpractices concerning the design of the master plan for the capital city area and the alignment of the Inner Ring Road along with its connected arterial roads.

The Inner Ring Road case specifically revolves around accusations of corruption and illegal activities carried out by Naidu during his term as the Chief Minister. The timeframe of concern spans from 2014 to 2019, during which certain government officials are also implicated. The allegations encompass irregularities in the planning and execution of the master plan for the capital city, as well as questionable decisions regarding the alignment of the Inner Ring Road and its connected arterial roads.

The Andhra Pradesh government, dissatisfied with the High Court's decision to grant anticipatory bail to Naidu in the Inner Ring Road case, has taken the matter to the Supreme Court. The move suggests a determination to thoroughly investigate the allegations and underscores the government's commitment to ensuring accountability for any wrongdoing that may have occurred during the specified period.

The legal battle between the Andhra Pradesh government and N Chandrababu Naidu underscores the complexity of issues surrounding the development of Amaravati and the potential ramifications for those involved in decision-making processes. The Supreme Court's review of the anticipatory bail decision will likely shed light on the merits of the case and set the stage for future proceedings.
