The Allahabad High Court is set to announce its decision on Monday regarding whether to uphold the death sentences given to Surinder Koli and Moninder Singh Pandher by lower courts after their conviction in the 2005-2006 Noida serial murders, also known as the Nithari case.
Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Syed Aftab Husain Rizvi, who presided over the case, had delayed delivering their verdict last month on a total of 12 appeals and court references related to the death sentences imposed on Surinder Koli and Moninder Singh Pandher.
Surinder Koli received the death penalty in over 10 cases, and Moninder Singh Pandher was also sentenced to death in three cases by the trial courts.
On September 14, during a virtual session, the legal representatives for the appellant, Moninder Singh Pandher, and Surendra Koli presented their arguments regarding the scientific evidence. Following these proceedings, the court reserved the judgment in this case.
The notorious Nithari murders are thought to have occurred between 2005 and 2006. The case gained widespread attention when, in December 2006, human remains were discovered in a drain close to a residence in Nithari, Noida. Subsequently, it was revealed that Moninder Singh Pandher was the owner of the house, and Surinder Koli was his domestic helper. As a result of this discovery, both individuals were implicated in the First Information Reports (FIRs) related to the Nithari murders.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a total of 16 cases in relation to the Nithari murders. Surinder Koli was charged in all of these cases with offenses such as murder, abduction, and rape, along with the destruction of evidence. Moninder Singh Pandher was charged in one case related to immoral trafficking.
The Ghaziabad court took action by summoning Moninder Singh Pandher in five additional cases following pleas from several victims' families. According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Surinder Koli was responsible for the gruesome murders of several girls, dismembering their bodies before discarding the remains in the backyard outside their house.
