Adipurush makers approaches Apex Court against order seeking their personal appearance

Today, the makers of Adipurush approaches the Supreme Court challenging the Allahabad High Court's order seeking the personal appearance of the director, producer and dialogue writer of the movie.

The high court's order came while it was hearing petitions seeking a ban on the film.

The counsel for the petitioners mentioned the matter before Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud for urgent listing.

CJI DY Chandrachud, who was about to start a Constitution Bench hearing, asked the lawyer to mention the matter on Thursday.

Earlier on Monday, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court came down heavily on the censor board and the makers of Adipurush.

During a hearing on a plea about certain contentious dialogues in the movie, the bench asked, "What is it that the censor board keeps doing? What do you want to teach future generations?"

The court also questioned the absence of the producer, director and other parties during the hearing.

The petition was filed by advocate Kuldeep Tiwari.

On Tuesday, the Allahabad High Court allowed an application to include Manoj Muntashir Shukla, the dialogue writer of Adipurush, as a respondent in a plea seeking a stay on the film's screening. The court also issued a notice to him.

Produced by T-Series, Adipurush was panned on social media over its poor VFX and colloquial dialogues, with many political parties demanding a ban on the film's screening.

In Nepal, the film was banned over its dialogue referring to Sita as India's daughter.

The film, reportedly mounted on a budget of Rs 500 crore, earned Rs 340 crore in the first three days, but the box office collections went significantly down after the opening weekend.
