Adani-Hindenberg Issue: Hearing postponed again till Tuesday

The hearing of the Adani case in the Supreme Court has been postponed again till Tuesday.

A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud was hearing SEBI's application in which the stock market regulator SEBI has sought six months more time from the Supreme Court to probe Hindenburg's allegations against the Adani group.

Now the matter will be heard on Tuesday, 16 May.

Earlier, SEBI filed an application in the Supreme Court stating that since 2016, it has not conducted any investigation against any Adani group company. And to say that SEBI was investigating the group company is completely baseless. Seeking to extend the time limit for completing the investigation, SEBI has told the court that for the sake of justice, it is very important to investigate Hindenburg Research's allegation against Adani Group.

SEBI said that it would not be in the interest of justice and would not be legally appropriate to draw any wrong or premature conclusions before the investigation of possible flaws in Adani Group's regulatory disclosure. SEBI said that it has contacted the regulators of 11 countries. SEBI has asked these regulators to share information on whether the Adani group has violated any rules regarding the shares available in the market.

On May 12, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud told Sebi that the demand for six months' time to complete the probe was not reasonable. He has asked SEBI to complete the investigation in three months. However, the final decision of the court regarding extension of the deadline may come on Tuesday. SEBI has sought six months more time from the court to complete the investigation in the Adani case.
