Will set up bench to hear plea in Supreme Court by Muslim students: CJI DY Chandrachud on Hijab Ban Case

Today, the Chief Justice of India said that he will list the Hijab Ban Case matter of Karnataka after this Holi vacation.

The case was headed before a bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and PS Narasimha in which the Counsel member of the Shariat committee urging the Court to list the matter as soon as possible as the exams are commencing from March 9.

He mentioned that Hijab-wearing students will not be allowed to attend the exams. In response, the CJI replied - "What can I do if you come on the last day?", CJI asked the lawyer. The lawyer then replied that the matter was mentioned on earlier occasions.

On February 22, Adv. Shadan Farasat had mentioned the matter for seeking interim directions to allow Hijab-wearing students to attend the PUC exams conducted in government colleges

In the month of January, the CJI agreed to list this matter on urgent bases. When the State government banned the Hijab inside the government college, a lot of students took their admission to Private Colleges.

However, the exams are conducted in government colleges. In this backdrop, the petitioners seek permission to attend exams

Last year in March the Karnataka State Government imposed Ban to wear the Hijab in government educational institutes.
