On Friday, the Allahabad High Court rejected a petition from Jainab Fatima, the wife of the deceased gangster Ashraf. She had requested a halt to her potential arrest in the Umesh Pal murder case.
In April, Ashraf and his brother Atiq Ahmad, who had transitioned from being a gangster to a politician, were fatally shot by three individuals who posed as journalists during a media event. This incident occurred while they were being escorted by police personnel to a medical college.
Justice V K Birla and Justice Vinod Diwakar declined to provide any relief to Fatima. She had submitted a writ petition to the court, contesting the First Information Report (FIR) filed in connection with the murder case.
Umesh Pal, a crucial witness in the murder case of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal, along with his two police security guards, was fatally shot outside his residence in Dhoomanganj on February 24.
Following a complaint filed by Umesh Pal's wife, Jaya Pal, a criminal case was registered at the Dhoomanganj police station against Atiq, his brother Ashraf, their two sons, as well as associates including Guddu Muslim and Ghulam, along with nine other individuals.
In her petition, Jainab Fatima requested the court to temporarily halt her arrest in the case and to nullify the First Information Report (FIR) related to the incident.
Fatima is being sought in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case, as she is alleged to have assisted the shooters in fleeing the city. Currently, she is evading authorities and her whereabouts remain unknown.
