The Calcutta High Court is set to hear a defamation suit filed by West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday.
Mr. Bose initiated a defamation case against Ms. Banerjee on June 28, following her statement claiming that women had expressed fear about visiting Raj Bhavan due to its activities.
According to the high court's website, the defamation suit filed by Mr. Bose against Ms. Banerjee is scheduled for hearing on Wednesday before the bench of Justice Krishna Rao.
After Ms. Banerjee's remarks, the governor emphasized the duty of public representatives to avoid creating 'erroneous and slanderous impressions.
At an administrative meeting in the state secretariat on June 27, Ms. Banerjee claimed that 'women have expressed fear about visiting Raj Bhavan due to recent reported incidents.
On May 2, a contractual woman employee of Raj Bhavan alleged molestation against Bose, prompting an enquiry by Kolkata Police. Under Article 361 of the Constitution, no criminal proceedings can be instituted against a governor during their term in office.
