The Central Government has notified the appointment of Justice Sonia G Gokani as the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court on Sunday. A notification to this effect was published on the website of Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India. 

Supreme Court has recommended the name of Justice Gokani's for appointment as the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court on 8th February 2023.

The Notification states as under:-

"In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Ms. Justice Sonia Giridhar Gokani, Judge of the Gujarat High Court to be the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office".

She will serve as Chief Justice only for 15 days, as she is set to retire on 25th February this year.

She is currently the senior most judge of the Gujarat High Court. She was appointed judge on February 17, 2011.
