Udhayanidhi faces controversy following his remarks on Sanatana Dharma; SC to hear petition Today

Today, the Supreme Court will hear a petition seeking direction to the Tamil Nadu government to register a case against Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and the organizers of the Sanatan Dharma Umulan Sammelan.

A bench of Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Bela M. Trivedi will hear the case. Last week, the Supreme Court had refused to pass any order directing immediate listing of the petition.

Last week the Supreme Court had refused to pass any order directing immediate listing of the petition. CJI DY Chandrachud did not accept the delisting mention and asked senior advocate Dama Seshadri Naidu to follow the procedure laid down under the SOP for urgent listing of the cases.

In its petition, Adv Balaji demanded declaration be made stating that the participation of the state ministers in the Sanatan Dharma Eradication Conference held on September 2 was unconstitutional, which violates Articles 25 and 26 of the Indian Constitution. In addition, he also requested an investigation from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to determine if there is any element of terrorist funding, particularly from the Sri Lankan Tamil Tigers, involved in cross-border activities and outside India.

Also, the petition has demanded that as per the decision of the Supreme Court in the Hijab case, these conferences against any Hindu religion should not be held in the secondary schools of the state. Earlier, a similar application seeking to initiate legal action against Stalin Jr over his controversial statements was filed by a Delhi-based lawyer.

Udhayanidhi Stalin had on Wednesday claimed that President Draupadi Murmu was not invited during the inauguration of the new Parliament building because she is "a widow and belongs to the tribal community". After his statement the political atmosphere became very heated.

He said, "The new Parliament building was inaugurated. They (BJP) called Adhinams from Tamil Nadu for the inauguration, but the President of India was not invited because he is a widow and belongs to a tribal community. Is this Sanatan Dharma?''
