Today, Supreme Court had an all-female bench, led by Justices Hima Kohli and Bela Trivedi: Third time in history

Today, the Supreme Court will be led by Justices Hima Kohli and Bela M Trivedi. This is possibly the second time a bench of only female judges has been formed.

The bench will convene at 10.30 a.m. in Court No. 11.Though Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra and Justice Ranjana Prasad Desai sat together in 2013, it was a 'accidental' constitution caused by the absence of the presiding judge, Justice Aftab Alam. The first time a bench comprised entirely of female judges convened was in 2018, when Justice R Banumathi and Justice Indira Banerjee convened. The Supreme Court currently has only three female judges: Justices Hima Kohli, B V Nagarathna, and Bela Trivedi, who all took their oaths on the same day, August 31, 2021. The Supreme Court has ever had the most female judges at one time, with four in 2021, when Justice Indira Banerjee was also present, in addition to the three mentioned above. Justice Banerjee resigned in October of this year.
