Today, the Supreme Court rejected the plea by West Bengal government, challenging the Calcutta High Court’s refusal to provide interim relief to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into the teachers’ recruitment scam.
Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate submitted before the Calcutta High Court that it would not initiate any “coercive” action, including arrest, against Abhishek Banerjee till July 31, in connection with its ongoing investigation.
The CBI and ED are investigating Abhishek Banerjee's suspected involvement in discrepancies related to the hiring of teaching and non-teaching staff at government schools in West Bengal.
This recruitment scandal concerns the appointment of numerous teachers throughout Bengal's educational institutions in 2016.
Number of petitions were submitted to the High Court, claiming irregularities in the recruitment procedure, leading to the court addressing several of these cases.
