Justice served: 10 convicted in Tabrez Ansari lynching case, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment

Yesterday, the Jharkhand District Court sentenced 10 accused to 10 years' imprisonment under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC concerning the 2019 Tabrez Ansari Lynching case.

Earlier, in June, the Court convicted all the accused. The bench, headed by Additional District Judge-I Amit Shekhar, delivered the verdict.

Yesterday, the Court awarded the punishment in its order.

The Court also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on each of the convicts - Bhim Singh Munda, Kamal Mahato, Madan Nayak, Atul Mahali, Sunamo Pradhan, Vikram Mandal, Chamu Nayak, Prem Chand Mahali, Mahesh Mahali.

Case Brief:

A mob attacked 24-year-old Ansari on June 18, 2019, accusing him of stealing a motorcycle. He was beaten with rods and then handed over to the police. After a medical examination, he was sent to judicial custody. However, three days later, he was admitted to the hospital, where he died during treatment.

An alleged video of the incident went viral, showing Ansari tied to an electricity pole and being assaulted by the mob. They purportedly made him chant 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Jai Hanuman'.
