Suspension of Video Conference Facilities in Karnataka High Court Due to Cyber Security Concerns

The Karnataka High Court has temporarily suspended video conference facilities in all its courts located in Bengaluru, Dharwad, and Kalaburagi due to cyber security concerns. This precautionary measure has been taken in view of potential cyber threats to ensure the safety of the court proceedings.

Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale has conveyed orally, "An unfortunate situation has emerged. We are halting live streaming and video conferencing. We're not allowing the use of these facilities due to potential mischief. Unfortunately, there seems to be a disruptive element at play."

In 2021, the High Court initiated a trial of live-streaming court proceedings. The inaugural live-stream took place on May 31, accessible through the Karnataka High Court's official YouTube page. The initial hearing broadcasted was held in Court Hall number one, presided over by a division bench consisting of Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Suraj Govindaraj.

In 2022, the High Court officially introduced the Karnataka Rules on Live Streaming and Recording of Court Proceedings, effective from January 1st of that year.
