Supreme Court confirmed the practice of appointing senior advocates, thereby affirming the constitutional validity of Sections 16 and 23 of the Advocates Act, 1961. The court determined that the process of granting senior designations to advocates was not arbitrary or artificial. It emphasized that the categorization of advocates into senior and non-senior advocates was not unreasonable and was grounded in standardized merit-based criteria.

 Supreme Court referred to a five-judge Constitution bench a batch of pleas challenging the validity of the electoral bond scheme for political funding of parties. A bench consisting of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said that they have received an application requesting that, due to its urgency, the case be referred to a larger bench for a final and definitive judgment.

The division bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Aravind Kumar of the Supreme Court has granted relief to a person with 'colour blindness', the Court directed the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) to employ him as an Assistant Engineer (Electrical) with a suitable salary grade.

The Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra, has strongly slams the National Medical Commission (NMC) for not giving stripined to the candidates doing MBBS internship. The Supreme Court bench, while reprimanding the NMC in the interest of MBBS trainees, said, “What is the National Medical Commission doing? These young doctors are working 16 to 20 hours a day, it is like bonded labour.”

There would be 176 holidays. The longest vacation is Summer Vacation starting from 18th May 2024 to 7th July, 2024. 2nd January would be the first working day whereas 20th December would be the last working day. Winter Vacation would start from 21st December. Other than this there would be three other whole week holidays i.e. Holi Vacation, Dussehra Vacation and Diwali Vacation.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has rescheduled the date for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) XVIII. The AIBE 18 examination is now set to take place on November 26, 2023. With the extension of exam date, the last date to register for AIBE is now November 4. Earlier, the last date to register for the AIBE 18 exam was October 9, 2023. 

Supreme Court Committee has designated former Delhi High Court judges Justices Mukta Gupta and Najmi Waziri as senior advocates. The decision was reached during a meeting convened by the Chief Justice of India and other Supreme Court judges on October 16.

On Thursday, the division bench comprising Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Dipankar Datta of Supreme Court Mandates internal complaint committees for Sexual Harassment Reporting in Hospitals, Nursing Homes, and Sports Stadiums.
