Complainant's appeal dismissed: SC allows bail to stand for accused Ex-MLA in Punjab rape case

Yesterday, the Supreme Court refused to cancel the bail granted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to Simarjit Singh Bains, a leader of the Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) and former Punjab MLA, in a 2021 rape case.

"The High Court has applied its mind and exercised its discretion. Sorry! We won't interfere with the High Court judgment," a Bench led by Justice AS Bopanna said, disposing of the complainant's appeal.

However, the Bench stated that she could approach the High Court to seek the cancellation of Bains' bail if he violated any of the bail conditions.

The complainant moved the apex court seeking the cancellation of Bains' bail, which was granted by the High Court on January 25 with certain conditions.
