On Friday, the Apex Court of India dismissed the petition filed by Federation of Automobile ADalers Association. In the case of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association vs Chandigarh Administration, the Hon'ble Court rejected the petition against Chandigarh Administration Vehicles Policy.
The bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala, observed that it's a pending matter of Punjab and Haryana High Court and tell the petitioner to take this matter to the High Court. The policy under challenge was passed in light of the administration's endeavour to promote eco-friendly transport. Therefore, it had stated that non-electric two-wheelers would not be registered between February 10 and March 31 by the Registering and Licensing Authority.
The Policy is made to promote eco-friendly vehicles and it had stated that non-electric two-wheelers would not be registered between February 10 and March 31 by the Registering and Licensing Authority.
The policy will be in effect for the next 5 years and during this period efforts were made to reduce pollution by stopping registering fuel-run vehicles.
The petitioners sought a stay on the policy.
