Sudarshan News editor arrested by Gurguram Police over X (Twitter) post on Nuh violence

Mukesh Kumar, the resident editor of Sudarshan News, was arrested by police in Gurugram for allegedly making provocative social media posts about communal unrest in Nuh and neighboring areas in Haryana.

In response to Kumar's detention, the TV network, which initially claimed he was "abducted" by several goons, called it an attack on media freedom.

He was arrested by the Cyber Crime, East Police Station, Gurugram. Six people were killed in the Nuh communal violence that erupted during a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession on 31st July 2023.

An FIR was registered against Mukesh Kumar on 09th August under Sections 153B, 401, 469, and 505 (1) (C) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66-C of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

As per the police, Kumar has posted tweet on X alleged a foreign media house has been making calls to the Gurugram Police Commissioner and pressuring it to take action against Hindus over the communal riots.

On 08th August, he wrote, "The @AJENews (Al Jazeera News Channel) has been making calls to the Gurgaon Police Commissioner and pressuring her to take action against Hindus. And after receiving the call, @DC_Gurugram comes under so much pressure she picks up Hindu activists from anywhere."

Varun Dahiya Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), Gurugram said Kumar was arrested on Friday and taken to a hospital for his medical examination.
