SPP Amit Prasad Resigns from Key Role in Delhi Riots 2020 Case

Amit Prasad, the Special Public Prosecutor representing the Delhi Police in the Delhi Riots 2020 cases, has stepped down from his position.

Prasad, in his resignation letter addressed to Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on December 15, expressed his dedication to handling prosecution cases to the best of his abilities for 3.5 years but conveyed his inability to continue in the role moving forward.

"There was a lot of conflict between his private practice and the Delhi riots cases" and that the "Shraddha Walkar case was taking a lot of time and energy," Prasad told.

Amit Prasad, serving as the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP), held a prominent role as the representative of the prosecution in the Delhi Riots cases. He notably advocated in the highly publicized conspiracy case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the murder case involving 85-year-old Akbari Begum, and the sedition case against Sharjeel Imam.
