Sharjeel Imam and Asif Iqbal Tanha discharged in Jamia Milia Islamia violence

A Delhi court released Sharjeel Imam and Asif Iqbal Tanha on February 4 in a case involving the violent episodes at Jamia Milia Islamia University in December 2019.

Invoking Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 186, 353, 332, 333, 308, 427, 435, 323, 341, 120B, and 34 of the IPC, the FIR claims offences of rioting and unlawful assembly. 

However, Imam continues to be detained in connection with additional FIRs filed against him over the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. Imam and Tanha are both charged in the Special Cell's case, which contends that the riots in Northeast Delhi in 2020 were the result of a bigger conspiracy.
