Sexual Harassment Case: SC Grants Absolute Anticipatory Bail to Srinivas BV

Today, the Supreme Court of India grants Absolute Anticipatory Bail to IYC President Srinivas BV. This bail had been given in response to a case filed against him, accusing him of misconduct towards a fellow Congress worker.

The said orders are passed by the division bench of Justices BR Gavai, Aravind Kumar and Prashant Kumar Mishra

Srinivas was granted interim anticipatory bail by the Supreme Court in May of this year.

This order was issued in response to a plea filed by Srinivas, in which he challenged a decision by the Gauhati High Court to reject the request for quashing the first information report (FIR) filed against him.

Srinivas had asserted that the complaint did not sufficiently establish the alleged offenses. He also emphasized that the Assam Police lacked the jurisdiction to initiate an investigation or register an FIR for an offense that was purportedly committed in Chhattisgarh.

Earlier, the division Bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice Sanjay Karol noted that the alleged incident happened during 24-26 February 2023 in Raipur and the complaint was lodged in April 2023 in Assam.
