Sexual exploitation case: Delhi HC instructs State to submit Report

Recently, Delhi government submitted a status report in the High Court on the sexual assault of a three-year-old girl by an employee in a South Delhi school.

The matter was heard before the division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula, the State said that there is a need to constitute a child safety monitoring committee to ensure that the standards set by the authorities are duly implemented by the schools.

Advocate Santosh Kumar Tripathi, appearing for the Delhi government, said that the committee should visit all the schools in Delhi and ensure compliance with the check-list. The bench asked the standing counsel to suggest names of officers and independent persons to be appointed to the committee. Also put forth the idea of ​​including a retired judge in the committee.

On this, the advocate requested the court to pass an order to constitute the committee. During the hearing, Santosh Tripathi informed the court that while initiating criminal proceedings against the sweeper accused of sexual exploitation of the girl child, an FIR has been lodged in other sections including POCSO.

It is notable that on August 3, the court had initiated a public interest litigation on August 8 after taking suo motu cognizance of the incident of sexual abuse of a girl child in a school in South Delhi's Panchsheel Enclave and ordered the government and the Directorate of Education to submit a status report. . Now the next hearing of this matter will be on 21 September.

The Directorate of Education said in its status report that CCTV cameras have been installed in 651 out of 728 school buildings. However, live streaming has not started as the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in this regard is yet to be finalised. There was an incident of sexual exploitation of a minor student in the school.
