Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal informed the Supreme Court on January 17 that IPL founder Lalit Modi had made "scurrilous allegations" against Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi on social media, in violation of an undertaking given to the Court that he would refrain from making such statements. The Supreme Court is hearing a property settlement dispute involving Lalit Modi's family. "In this matter, there is a family dispute. The Modi family dispute. There was an undertaking given before the Court that no statements will be made in social media. But scurrilous statements have been made against my colleague Mukul Rohatgi. This cannot be allowed, it is a violation of this court's order", Sibal spoke in front of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. The matter will be posted on February 14, according to the CJI. Sibal, on the other hand, requested an earlier date so that an order to remove the statements could be issued. He presented the transcripts of the statements to the bench, which included Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala.
After reviewing the document, the bench agreed to grant an earlier date and scheduled the case for the following Friday. According to Sibal, Modi has made other offensive statements. A special leave petition filed by Lalit Modi in the Supreme Court is challenging a Delhi High Court decision that found the anti-arbitration suit filed by his mother Bina Modi and siblings to be maintainable. The Supreme Court had previously ordered the parties to mediate.
